HEALTH CARE
Since the establishment of Center for Immigrants, our department of
healthcare has always been and is responsible for referring survivors of
torture, asylum seekers, asylees, refugees and immigrants and their families
to many community health care providers in the community. Currently, Center
for Immigrants has an unwritten collaborative agreement with Exempla Saint
Joseph Hospital and other mayor caregivers which allows our participants
that are mainly asylees, refugees, and immigrants to receive free-of-charge
or greatly discounted healthcare at three of their clinics: the Caritas Clinic for
internal medicine, the Bruner Family Medicine clinic for children, pregnant
women, and their adult clinic through referrals as per need basis. We may
also refer participants to the Denver Health and other Hospitals. All these
programs assure that our participants, who are often newly arrived in
Colorado and suffering from ailments due to trauma and years of medical
neglect to receive prompt and quality care. Our health care program has also
benefited from consultations from Dr. Sarah Combs (PhD), a registered nurse
and public health expert whose specialty is the care of torture survivors and
traumatized immigrants with a combined years of experience of providing
care. All these programs assure that our participants, who are often newly
arrived in Colorado and suffering from ailments due to trauma, torture. and
years of medical neglect to receive prompt and quality care. In the past
3years, Center for Immigrants have applied for and largely received
continuous funding from Delta Dental Colorado Foundation. These
contributions and fundings have helped and helping torture survivors, asylum
seekers, asylees, and refugees and immigrants and their families served at
Center for Immigrants to meet their dental healthcare needs as well helped
and is helping to our preventative care.
